The Land of Make Believe

Out walking, these words emerged,
and I wondered about the meaning,
of another land, with parallel lines.
Why say, if it's not real, not to be believed,
why say: "Make Believe"?
I wondered why Barrie, Shakespeare, Conan Doyle,
Coleridge, et al, all our loved ones - writers and poets -
are so loved. They who specialise in "Make Believe".
Perhaps the words really mean "Make us believe"?
Which may account for our love of them?
They seem to suggest there may be something else...
